Konnichiwa minna-san~ I am writing another movie review. I had been wanting to write another one, but hadn't watched any descent movies for me to write about. I could write one about the ones I didn't like, wait, I have(RE5). This post contains spoilers. Make sure that you watch the film first! Edit- I should have posted this last week, my bad! xD
Dark Skies is about a family living in the suburbs. Immediately, they began to experience some abnormal events, such as food from the fridge all over the floor, cans and other items stacked on top of one another, spiraling crop circle lights on the ceiling(it will remind you of Poltergeist) and all other types of crazy sh*t. It's like Signs meets Poltergeist and Paranormal Activity(the director who made that film, made this also). This film doesn't take long, to get to the point, just like with Sinister.
I watched it again with Otousan, and noticed something. While Keri Russell's character was upstairs, going to her bedroom, I saw an alien behind her reaching to touch her shoulder. I'm not sure if others saw it, Otousan sure didn't see it. lol These beings were described as The Greys.
Grey aliens (also referred to as "Roswell Greys", "Greys" or "Grays") are alleged extraterrestrial beings whose existence is promoted in ufological, paranormal, and New Age communities, and who are named for their skin color.

Around half of all reported alien encounters in the United States describe Grey aliens. Such claims vary in every respect including their nature (ETs, extradimensionals, demons, or machines), origins, moral dispositions, intentions, and physical appearances (even varying in their eponymous skin color). A composite description derived from overlap in claims would have Greys as small-bodied sexless beings with smooth grey-colored skin, enlarged head and large black eyes. The origin of the idea of the Grey is commonly associated with the Betty and Barney Hill abduction claim, although skeptics see precursors in science fiction and earlier paranormal claims. -Source
Mind you, I'm off and on with the extraterrestrial, and I didn't even know what they were called. I always called them aliens! lol This is sad! It's been months since I've watched an extraterrestrial film. The last one I watched, was a B rated one, which reminded me of Stray Heat. I haven't visited the paranormal forums in months. I need to go back to reading there!
Back to the film, it had its moments where the parents got on my nerves. Otousan was hoping for a happy ending of rescuing the boy. But here's the question, where is he? Is he on Earth? Is he light years away? We're aware that they've invaded Earth, but where are they located? Are they underground? He believes they're living somewhere in the house. Perhaps under the house? Who knows? There can't always be a happy ending... I'm still satisfied with the ending of Sinister.
The movie did a good job of having the audience believe that they were going to take the youngest son. You were lead on to the end where you see drawings of the oldest son, from when he was a kid. Apparently, the parents either didn't pay attention or didn't know. The oldest son trying to communicate with them through the walkie-talkie, reminded me of the Japanese horror film the Unidentified. Come to think of it, I believe that film was about the extraterrestrial/paranormal as well. There was a scene at the end, where the guy who would watch over the guy who was going to die and go somewhere else, received a camera dropping from the ceiling. In the video, he saw the other guy and other souls, floating around, screaming for help.
I really enjoyed this film, and it had a refreshing story line. It was a break from watching ghosts, lycans and vampires. It will have you at the edge of your seats, and jumping back. lol The soundtracks are really eerie, and it will remind you of those older sci fi/ufo films. Sorry that this review is bland. My mind is on other things, unfortunately. I'm sorry... Enjoy the film though...
