Ni hao minna-san and welcome to another movie review. Lately, I have been quite impressed with these movie products. I watched this movie on 8/8 so lets get started! ❗Spoiler Alert❗

Edit- I am sooo sorry! I wrote this last year on September 25th!! Check it out and leave a comment!😅

I learned about this movie months ago and couldn't wait to see it. I am always on the look out for the latest horror films, especially originality. I heard about this film being about cybernatural which is a term synonymous with supernatural, with the exception that it's supernatural through cyber space. This is basically what this film is all about.

It starts off with a young girl in her plaid shirt and white boy shorts on, talking on Skype via webcam with her boyfriend, who had no shirt on. They're chatting and she teases him while unbuttoning her top and running her fingers along the outside of her underwear. Judging by the format of the screen, I'd say that it was a MAC laptop that she was using through the film. First, she was watching a video on Youtube of a girl shooting herself in the face. That there, pretty much told me what this film was going to be about.

The film is in found footage. If you are not familiar with that, then you have to be familiar with The Blair Witch Project. I believe that was one of the first found footage movies that broke the boundaries for other horror films. So throughout the film, you'll see her on webcam, checking her gmail, Facebook, chatting on a chat client on MAC and browsing the internet. The film really reminded me of Japanese horror when she clicks on a link which directs her to a forum about answering phone calls from the dead. In Japan, there are forums online where they talk about their supernatural experiences, as well as urban legends pertaining to their areas.

Do Not Answer Messages From The Dead...

So all through the film, they receive these weird messages and an anonymous person on their Skype line. They assume someone hacked her account. It isn't until they discover that it was the spirit of a dead girl who had committed suicide a year prior(as seen on the Youtube video). The deaths were pretty interesting! I liked the stares they did leading up to their demises. It was as if they were scared to death to the point where their faces were permanently in that state of shock. This film is very modern in the sense that it displays things you're familiar with, in the now. Anyone who has watched this, are pretty much familiar with the websites and software used in this film.

I liked the ending where it's practically no one lives or wins, everyone dies! Not all movies really need a happy ending but at least the spirit got her revenge on those who drove her to suicide. I personally have had my fair share of cyber harassment. I've had friends turn on me for no reason. I've had people put my screen name in their Yahoo profiles. I've had one mixed nut whore put my real name, address and phone number in her Yahoo profile after she flipped on me and gave me a fake number and address. Then if you read my The Dark Side of Interracial, you'll see that I've had this interracial couple harassing me for months after finding out that he was already in a relationship with a Hispanic chick who thought she was White. I could go on and on, which pushed me to being anti social on the internet. Recently, I've had friends who didn't like me as a person but kept me around on their buddy lists to like pictures of me or to read about drama. I don't talk to anyone anymore, I'm all about my business online. I've pretty much shut down my Facebook page.

I wouldn't say this film is original. I would say that the originality comes from it being a PC found footage. This film reminds me too much of Asian horror in some ways. I believe I've watched several films about students being terrorized by an entity through cyberspace. At the top of my head, I can't think of which film it was but I know for sure that it's Japanese. I guess that just shows my bias lol.
I did like the message of not running away from your sins and how people use this internet not in the intent of decorum of how they interact with others. As mentioned above, I've dealt with cyber harassment. In public, I've had people snap photos of me on their smart phones. I have no clue what they're trying to accomplish, as anyone who sees me online know that I don't associate with anyone and they more than likely took the photo without my consent. I have no friends or family so the only photos online are ones I've taken myself. I'm always checking the internet to see if my photos are online. I think it's messed up how people think that they can take out a phone and start filming/snapping photos of people they don't know without thinking of how it will affect them. You have no idea what people are going through. From personal experience, this is why I don't have anything to do with Black people as they were the main ones with their phones out when I'm around. I become paranoid around them as they have chips on their shoulders and I never know what they're going to do or say to me. This sociopath disorder is really destroying our society...

Anyways, you guys tell me what you think of this film. Did you like it? Did you find it original? Let me know your thoughts below! Thanks for reading!✌
